Murray Darling Dairy Industry 2025 Strategic Plan
The Murray Darling Basin (MDB) Dairy Industry 2025 Strategic Plan sets out a shared vision for a profitable, resilient and innovative dairy industry across the Murray-Darling Basin.
Led by a cross-sector Steering Committee, the strategy acknowledges the critical role of dairy in regional prosperity, national food security, and in the broader irrigation-based agri-economy.
It highlights the MDB dairy sector’s strategic importance, which extends far beyond milk volumes, spanning dynamic processing, value-adding, and emerging product innovation, particularly in health and nutrition. The strategy recognises the importance of supporting a skilled and adaptable workforce, and calls for stronger local partnerships and investment in talent attraction and retention.
Importantly, it identifies key gaps, most notably the lack of consistent data and ongoing networks to support coordination and forward planning. Rather than prescribing solutions at the farm or processor level, the strategy focuses on what’s needed to strengthen the entire supply chain and ensure dairy continues to thrive across diverse MDB regions.
At its core, this strategy is a call to action, to tell the story of MDB dairy more effectively, build collaborative momentum, and secure a sustainable future for the industry and the communities it supports.
